Resting Metabolic Rate
Also known as RMR, or REE (resting energy expenditure), this metabolic
assessment is one of the most scientific and accurate ways to evaluate a
person’s daily calorie requirements.
|
|
Do you know how many calories your body requires to maintain your current weight,
lose weight, or add lean muscle mass? Knowing your body’s daily caloric needs will
help ensure optimal results from your diet and exercise program.
WHO BENEFITS FROM AN REE MEASUREMENT?
• Individuals with pre-existing medical conditions, such as:
• Obesity
• Diabetes
• Menopause
• Thyroid disorders
• Metabolic syndrome
• Overweight individuals who’ve been unsuccessful at
conventional dieting and weight loss.
• Any individual attempting to fine-tune their weight
loss or initiating a weight-maintenance phase of their diet. Individual metabolism can
vary greatly, depending upon a person’s age, gender, muscle mass and activity level. |
| HOW IS REE MEASURED ? |
|
• After a 12-hour fast, in the comfort of a relaxed, non-clinical
setting by an exercise physiologist, using a state-of -the-art
metabolic gas analyzer.
• Once oxygen utilization is measured, the value can be
converted to its energy equivalent which is more commonly
known as calories
• In addition, body fat percentage is calculated, to differentiate between muscle and fat
weight. This ensures your weight loss is from fat stores and not lean muscle mass.
